Spring Season
The Danbury Athletic Youth Organization’s youth track & field team – The DAYO Lightning – recently completed its 6th successful season of spring track & field at the Western Connecticut Conference Championship meet at Ridgefield High School on June 4th. The Lightning’s boys and girls teams both placed third in the team standings, the only team posting a top three finish for both boys and girls.
Jessica Glowacki won the girls 200 meter dash, Alexis Chikezie won the girls discus throw, and Tanisha Cunninham won the girls shot put. The girls 4x100 meter relay team of Glowacki, Jailyn Dickson, Ariel Williams, and Precious McCrea placed second. Glowacki also placed third in the 100 meter dash.
For the boys, Schyler Parris won the boys 800 Meter Run. The boys 4x400 meter relay team of Parris, MaLyke Davis, Malachi Bruton, and Lucca Constancio closed out the meet with a dramatic win in the last 50 meters of the race. Constancio also placed second in the boys high jump, while Phillip Lam placed second in the boys shot put. Jadon Parris placed third in the 800 meter run.
A week earlier at the Middle School State Championships at Manchester High School, Glowacki placed second in the girls 200 meter dash. In the club section of the 4x100 relay, the boys team of Xavier Ross, Ozzie Priar, Chris Twombly, and Cole Brown, and the girls team of Sarae Gunter, Ashley Williams, Stephanie Mosley, and Ariel Williams both placed second.
The Lightning opened the season at the 35th Annual O’Grady Relays at Danbury High School on April 29th, with the boys team of Constancio, Malachi Hopkins, Jaden Cazorla, and Schyler Parris and the girls team of Gunter, Glowacki, McCrea, and Iyanna Murphy both winning the middle school 800 meter sprint medley. Priar also placed third in the boys long jump.

Summer Season
The summer season saw our team show well, while competing in Connecticut and Massachusetts.
In AAU competition, two members of our team, Ethan and Sarah Rochester qualified for the 2016 AAU Junior Olympics in Houston, Texas. At the Region 1 qualifying meet in West Haven, CT, Sarah won the 100 and 200 Meter Dashes, while placing second in the 400 Meter Dash. Ethan placed second in the long jump while placing third in the 100 and 200 Meter Dashes.
We look forward to another great season in 2017!
